ROX! from Emmen holds a unique position: they are the only Roxette tribute band in the Netherlands. Singer Marco ter Beek laughs about it. "We have to be the best — we're the only one."
The six-piece band is fronted by Marco and vocalist Sandy Altman. They've been playing together for years and at some point made a deliberate choice to focus on Roxette. The repertoire suited their lineup perfectly, and success followed quickly. Today, ROX! is one of only three Roxette tribute acts in Europe — and they tour the continent regularly.
During the pandemic, live shows stopped. But the band kept busy. Marco and keyboardist Tim started exchanging ideas and ended up writing original material in the style of Roxette. The result was 'Imagination' — a track that could easily pass as a genuine Roxette song. It reached position 131 in a major regional music chart in the Netherlands. Not bad for a tribute act.
With venues reopening, ROX!'s calendar filled up fast. But the songwriting continues. After 'Imagination', they released 'A New Day', with more tracks in the works. A full album? "I hope so," says Sandy. "Why not?"
ROX! offers the best of both worlds: recognisable Roxette classics combined with original songs in the same style. A strong package for festivals, theatres and events.
